Nutrition for Vitality – Eating Well for a Healthy Life

Good nutrition is important for every age group, however it becomes even more important as we age because our diet has a major impact on our health, both body and mind. Keep reading to discover the ways eating well can lead to a healthier and happier life for senior citizens.

Enhanced Physical Health

It’s no secret that what we eat has a major impact on our overall physical health, which is why eating a well-balanced diet is so important for the overall physical health of older people. Incorporating an abundance of lean proteins, whole grains, healthy fats, fruits and vegetables ensures that seniors get the necessary minerals, vitamins and antioxidants that supports their muscle strength, bone density and overall immune system.

Improved Cognitive Functions

Good nutrition also plays a massive role in looking after our cognitive function as we age. Incorporating nutrients such as antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins, in our diets has been shown to positively impact cognitive abilities, improved memory and overall brain health.

Enhancing Digestive Health

As we age, we often experience changes to our digestive systems, so it is even more important to be looking after our digestive system and gut health. Incorporating fibre from legumes, whole grains and fruit can support healthy gut microbiome, prevent constipation and promote regularity.

Promotes Emotional Well-being

The food we eat not only has a major impact on our physical health but it can also have major impacts on overall emotional well-being. Research has shown eating a nutrient rich diet can positively influence seniors mental health and mood. Mealtimes also provide a great opportunity for our residents to interact and socialise with each other.

At Karingal, our in-house executive chef works closely with our dietitians to ensure that all of our residents enjoy a variety of nutritionally balanced and texture- appropriate meals. To find out more information about Karingal Green, book a tour here: https://kg.dojowebstaging.xyz/bookatour/
